Topic: Sims 3 early review

I don’t know if any of you lot actually play the Sims but I do so stiff shit!

Anyway I am going to write about my early views on this game.

Ok so after a typical install which I had to put a code in like usual I finally booted up the game and after watching the splash screens I was finally into gameplay, however one thing bugged me straight away there was the option for only one town and there was no option to create a new one. This troubled me as I am the builder type of sim player which means I tend to build homes and towns more then playing with the actual Sims for an extended period. As it turns out once you register your game you can download another town and eventually a town builder will be available much like the map builder was with the recent command and conquer games! This personally has given me the shits as I never like the pre-built towns with any of the Sims games and this is a big fuck you to all the builder types like me!

After being forced to use the one town I now went into build a sim mode, and for the most part I am really impressed with the customisation you can do with the stock standard clothing and hair colours!, however that said the hair styles are really limited and it turns out to get even more you have to purchase them from the Sims store (yes with real money which = sim points, when you buy the game you get about 1000 sim points, I will cover this later). After giving Sims their looks comes the new feature. The personality traits, these really make the game more interesting and the Sims more unique, I have a kleptomaniac Sim who hates children which is a good kisser and has a heart of Gold, also the Evil trait mixed with insanity produces results for example your evil sim will make some random their nemesis and go for a swim in their formal wear and clean themselves by having an evil shower lol.

Now comes actual gameplay, which is pretty much the same as the Sims 2 however Sims have lifetime wants instead of everyday ones which is unusual also the basic needs like eating shitting and sleeping don’t drop as quick which is rewarding. Another thing im pleased with is you can decided how long the Sims can live for, there is the basic 200 odd sim days to about 6000 sim days I think which is great if you want to play your favourite Sims for longer. Another good thing is when a sim leaves home you no longer get stuck with fucking loading screens they just jog, ride or drive to where they want! Also the neighbourhood evolves as you play (unless you disable it) so in other words your Sims are no longer in separate time capsules.

Build and buy mode are more or less the same as before however you can customise object much the same way as clothing which is great also objects can be placed on angles and are usable which is another bonus.

Now the EA store thingy, pretty much as this stage most of the hairstyles which should have been included in the game are now for purchase at their shitty shop which is a load of bullshit, most of the objects are just more or less the same but look a wee bit different and they cost REAL money!! I am sure their will be plenty of spastics which will use it however once the fan made mods come out how do they expect this to be profitable unless they are using the store as the way to no longer sell those “stuff packs” in real shops I dunno. However I am not impressed with this idea I have already bought the fucking game and will most likely obtain the expansions at some point so why the fuck should I waste money in EA’s fucking store! And does this mean they will make it harder for fan made mods to work? Only time will tell but the fan made stuff is the only thing that keeps me playing the game.

Overall as I have only played the game for a tiny bit I cant give the full picture but this is my final verdict, it’s a solid game with much to keep you occupied until the next expansion and mods come out however the lack of town building and stripping down of the game for more bucks brings it down. So pretty much if you like the Sims buy it you will have fun but if you’re a builder type of player like me just hold out till the town builder tool is out and wait for more community mods!

Re: Sims 3 early review

Thanks for the review. It was nice. Yeah I hate that buy-the-cool-stuff-you-want-to-play-with separately. I hate that shit. A lot of mmoarpagas do that.

General Ackbar says "IT'S A TRAP!!!"

Re: Sims 3 early review

He does, but that's the cost of Maximum fat and maximum muscle. Also the game can't do bald right. Ugh.

Although I love how you can customize pretty much everything. that's a plus.

well Ive been playing the shit out of this game but what Im doing is I have cleared all the pre-made families out of riverview and started from scratch making all the most over the top stereotypical characters I can... from crazies to normal people to a buff fit couple with a fat couch patato lazy as fuck kid to even the most evil insane bad man possible, still creating families but hopefully when I am done I will see some interesting interactions, coupling and so forth big_smile  the personality types make this game full of win
